      2-Day Polymer Clay Workshop with Debbie Jackson: Exquisite Embellishments!Dates/Times: Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5, 2019, 9:00am-5:00pm each dayLocation: North Charleston City Hall - Montague Conference Room on 2nd Floor PRESENTED AS A COMPONENT OF THE 2019 NORTH CHARLESTON ARTS FEST In this 2-day workshop for all skill levels, artist, author, and arts educator Debbie Jackson will take participants on a fascinating creative journey using a variety of metallic mediums to transform the surface of polymer clay. Learn innovative ways to use metallic foils, composition leaf, metallic fibers, powders, paints, and more. Participants will have the opportunity to take advantage of Debbie's extensive mold collection made from items like buttons, costume jewelry, and African brass pieces to make components for their creations, as well as make an assortment of textured clay sheets from a variety of techniques to be used for creating an extensive collection of exquisite embellishments, beads, buttons, and jewelry as time allows. These lustrous pieces can be used on textile creations, wearables, quilts, and more! If you like things that sparkle and shimmer, this class is for you! All clay, major tools, and equipment will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring thin to medium-sized double-pointed knitting needles, if handy. There will be a one-hour lunch break each day. Participants may bring their own lunch or purchase a boxed lunch at time of registration. Workshop Schedule:Day 1:9:00-12:30 - Introduction to working with polymer clay. See samples of finished projects for inspiration. Learn how to make molds from buttons, costume jewelry and more. Create an assortment of textured clay sheets and components from molds to use for your projects.12:30-1:30 - Lunch1:30-5:00 - Continue making components from the morning session. Day 2:9:00-12:30 - Learn how to create buttons, beads, and embellishments with a variety of metallic mediums. 12:30-1:30 - Lunch1:30-5:00 - Continue to create and complete components and embellishments. You will leave this class with an exquisite collection to be proud of! About the artist:Debbie Jackson has over 20 years of experience in teaching and working with polymer clay. She manages a business, Debbie’s Adornments, as an avenue to sell her original, hand-crafted creations, and her first book, Polymer Clay Jewelry, was published in 2004. Currently, one of her jewelry collections is being showcased and sold exclusively at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC.
